The Frontline of Labor: OB Triage
DESCRIPTION
This class is designed to assist RNs (either new to OB or new to maternity triage) in
developing competency in the triage and prioritization of multiple triage patients.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the role and responsibilities of the OB triage nurse, including legal and
ethical considerations.
2. Demonstrate a rapid maternal and fetal assessment
3. Differentiate between emergent and routine obstetric patient presentations
4. Identify clinical signs and high-priority conditions such as preterm labor, vaginal
bleeding, hypertensive disorders and decreased fetal movement.
5. Recognize and initiate stabilization for obstetric emergencies including placental
abruption and uterine rupture.
